I don't know what this means, but looking online I see that other people have experienced simlar problems with different games, although I didn't see any solutions. I've recently installed a new Hard Drive, could this be the problem? Anybody know how to combat this issue?

I had a long session with Gonza, who had the same issue. He solved it on his own later on. Ask your Pada for his solution!!!

Ok...changed compatibility....no luck....wasn't expecting much....changing that rarely works. Could be driver issue, I only installed them recently when I put in the Hard Drive....not sure of the next step...

Actually I've read the whole part about Compatibility is to run it in a previous version of windows that the program was able to run, so instead of Windows 95 try doing Windows XP (Service Pack 3).

If drivers dont work, then try that, but from what I see alot of people are saying to update driver.

EDIT: This was posted in August 2011.
Another person with same problem wrote:
I've updated my drivers, updated the game and tried changing the compatibility to windows xp, when i changed it to xp it didnt give me the "could not load opengl subsystem" instead it "encountereD a problem and has to close"..... is there something that I'm missing?
If that happens then do this.

Guy that helped guy with problem wrote:
I believe there are issues with recent drivers from ATI.

Try the method listed here http://lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=206018

or try this method http://lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=204478

I remember having this problem, I'm almost certain it wasn't drivers needing updated, have you got all assets etc in your base Phoe?

Gawd its so long since I've looked in base, imagine all cobwebs I gonna have to clean out. It been so long I have no idea what should be in there.....I did get a couple of error messages saying that the game may not have installed correctly, but I've installed it several times and it says the same....

All I have is Assets0.pk3 and Assests1.pk3

I remember i used to have that folder packed full of skins, maps and configs :S

Well.. I'm gonna post another thing that is said to work, tho how difficult it is i don't know, depends on the person i guess.

Guy that says this works wrote:
I'm using AMD radeon 7850 graphic card with Catalyst drivers 12.6 and JKII outcast crashes at start. After tried a lot of solution of this thread and several others, I finally found one that worked for me.

Explanation:
Most games based on the Quake 3 engine have this error on newer graphic cards. The buffer overrun happens when the game engine asks the graphic driver for a list of supported OpenGL extensions. The faulty game engine doesn't allocate enough memory for the extension list

To fix it:
Backup the executable. Open the executable in a hex editor (http://frhed.sourceforge.net/en/). Find the string "GL_EXTENSIONS: %s" and change it to "GL_EXTENSIONS: %p".

Do this for jk2sp.exe and jk2mp.exe.

This solution doesn't seem to work on steam (I obtained an error code 51) but resolved the crash with the original cd.

Hope this help.
