Custom resolution for JK2 MP

Tired of playing JK2 with 640x? or 860x? resolutions and still getting a letterbox/square sized window? Now the solution has arrived and finally ladies and gentlemen it is going to satisfy our beloved clients, members and guests in the game! Off we go!

1.In order to set a custom resolution you have to go to your gamedata/base directory  and open jk2config.cfg (Wordpad, notepad or any note program should work)

2. Once you opened the the config search for the commands; r_customwidth, r_customheight, r_mode, cg_fov, r_fullscreen. Active them all by setting r_customwidth and r_customheight to desired resolution (example: 1368 <--- width 768 <--- height). Set r_mode to -1 (make sure that the "-" symbol is added before the number "1" or else it wont work. Also set cg_fov too 100. (this changes the how far away the camera is from the player in third person mode. NOTE: in JK2MP 105 is maximum.

I did it a different way.

1) If you don't already have a shortcut, make one.

2) Right click, Properties.

3) Look for 'Target:' under the 'Shortcut' tab and type this after the file path of your game: +r_mode -1 +r_customwidth (width) +r_customheight (height) +vid_restart

Not sure if doing it the way you did changes anything. (which it shouldn't but heck if I know) But gonna try that later.

Actually it did and I found it on the steam community. You can also make it easier for yourself by copy all the commands i pasted in this topic into a autoexec config file so you'll have full screen all the time.

i do not get the point of this, i played jk2 on 1024x1280 non stop without ever touching the console or cfg.

the game its sp and mp settings menu allow you to set the desired resolutions even while in game through the video menu.

1280x1024.
oh... how i hate with dread this typing on a tablet.
must it be such drag, and not with joy.

If you buy it from Steam Exi it doesn't let you change those settings for some reason. I had to edit the .cfg to get my preferred resolution.

OH S H I T, I've always thought it's impossible.. but I wont change it to my optimal screen. I dont wanna get used to another things. So I'll continue playing on a little square in the middle of my screen

Maybe for you but for people with higher resolutions the game begins to itch a fight you and you'll end up with a square sized screen with poor graphics.

I used to download JK2 from torrent sites but this time I decided to make a deal with steam. You see they had a Jedi Knight bundle for sale and it was 10~15 euro for the bundle. Totally worth it imo.

Yeah I got the same bundle I think, even individually they're on Steam pretty cheap.

Yeah, I have the original disc and it happened. Can't really make good screenshots without doing Alt+Enter every time (which got annoying) But now I just click the shortcut and it does it at start up.

ok, i just thought the game reported every working resolution like so many old games still do.

I just do it from the menu "1152 x *cant remember*" is the best for me

I play under that, yeah. 1152x864. I don't want to upscale to my native resolution, since everything seems so stretched. Even if it were to be tweaked along with the fov, I've gotten used to playing with that ratio.

If I put it any higher the screen gets misplaced and half of jk2 goes off screen

Do /bind key screenshot
It takes screenshots in game and puts in the dcmod screenshot folder

You can also do ALT + S if you use Xfire and it saves it to the Xfire folder or F12 if you use Steam.

OT: for some odd reason my xfire is screwing up everytime i launch it. Whenver i click on it's like it's frozen.

Is it the old version or the new beta one? I know they were having connection problems with it over the weekend. Have you tried reinstalling?

Nope I haven't and that could probably be the reason. The connection aren't a problem though.
