Xaso, Scorch is struggling with his German homework and he needs help. He was just wondering if you can translate a couple of 'Stuff' for him. I would be grateful if you helped him so he would just shut up about it.

This is what he wants translated for his German homework.

When I am eighteen year old, i will eat my five fruit and vegetables. I have never smoked and I never will. At the moment, I eat no fruit. I need to go to the Gym more often and keep fit. By eating lots of fruit and vegetables we can be eating in a healthier lifestyle.

Translate that please! Very Happy:D:D:D

When I am eighteen year old, i will eat my five fruit and vegetables.
Wenn ich achtzehn Jahre alt bin, werde ich meine fünf Früchte und Gemüse essen.

I have never smoked and I never will.
Ich habe nie geraucht und werde es (auch) nie.
The germans need to define what they never will do. never will (do) IT... we can let the do out, but we cant let the it go. --> es

At the moment, I eat no fruit.
Im Moment esse ich kein Obst.

I need to go to the Gym more often and keep fit.
Ich muss öfter in das Fitnessstudio gehen und fit bleiben.

By eating lots of fruit and vegetables we can be living a healthier lifestyle.
Mit dem Essen von viel Obst und Gemüse können wir einen gesünderen Lebensstil leben.
(this is a very unusual sentence in german by three reasons: we have few unpersonal frases... we use unpersonal "man" or we use a person, so when we will be living a healthier lifstyle, the germans say: when we eat more blabla, we will live... translated close to the text, what i made is right, but the germans would never say. i will make a version as well from what germans would say:
Indem wir mehr Obst und Gemüse essen...
second: we can be living is i construction of the future, for which we use the present in german. i write a version with future as well, but know that germans doest say it :X
(Indem wir mehr Obst und Gemüse essen) werden wir einen gesünderen Lebenstil leben können.
and third: other languages can say living life, singing a song thinking a thought and so on. but we german avoid using an object which is already contained in the verb. we say conceive a thought, sing a tune, have (we use even rather a word "lead" here) a lifestyle. i will make a version as well, for what we'd actually say:
Indem wir mehr Obst und Gemüse essen führen wir einen gesünderen Lebensstil.

It isnt as easy as you would think to translate stuff even for xaso who has really good english, When u switch languages but keep the word format the same, it doesnt make sense. In some languages some things are said backwards to the way we say stuff, so if we dont rearrange the words too, it wont make any sense at all.

Example: English : "Im am twenty one years old". Direct translation : German: "Ich bin zwanzigein jahra alt".

As xaso will tell you, this doesnt sound right because we say it the opposate way to germany, because what it should be is: "Ich bin einundzwangig jahra alt." However what this means is if you translate back to english "I am One And twenty years old". which doesnt sound right to us. Also in german they say one and twenty all in one word (einundzwanzig).

There are many other examples, in both german, and other languages where this change of word order happens.

Anyways yeah, translations are hard because you cannot do it directly, you need to know the sentance and gramma format of the language you changing to, otherwise it will sound totally wrong. Thankfully though, xaso does. Wink

Also you must take into account that in german (and many other languages) all of there words are reffered to a gender, thus subjects are reffered to as masculine, femanine, and neutral. (der, die and den) the the and the in three different sexes , (einen, eine, ein) one, one and one in three different sexes. And then you have to the same for the degerate term such as, (kienen, kiene and kien) none, none and none in there different genders. Whats really difficult is that if you dont use the correct gender, the sentance doesnt sound right, and unfortuantly their is no law to govern what gender is used wherever. They are all different, you need to learn ever single word, then learn that words gender. Also femanine items can still have male 'the's'. example: "Der rock". Which means "The dress". A dress is a woman's item of clothing but it is said with a male 'the'!

Also using translators isnt a good idea for written work, they often get things wrong, incorrectly transfer gramma, and usually mess up the tenses of words.

i thought german was quite hard to learn, and since ive left school 5 years ago, i forgot much of it, but xaso will tell you, english is actually one of the hardest languages in the world to learn.

English has more words in its language than both french and german put together, has difficult tenses to learn such as "im will have my tea at home" to "Im having my tea at home" to "I've had my my tea at home. Apparently this is really hard to learn. Also there are such rules as using "an" when the next word has a vowel. Example "a apple" is wrong, "an apple" is correct. But "an car" is wrong, its "a car". finally the apostraphe is suppost to be really hard to use too. When u take letters out of a work, u must add an '. So it goes "cannot" to "can't".

So engish is really tough to learn too

Anyways tell your bro, GL with his german! Very Happy

And now i realise ive jusy wrote a boring lecture lol Very Happy

@ phoenix
nice post man, though ur german is very rusty xD
der, die, DAS ^^

and kEIn(er), kEIne, kEIn(es),

those thingies are really hard... because there are different rules... sometimes no rules and its confusing. sometimes i dont know where i have to look for a word, because i dont know if its kein or keienr i will ahve to look xD

and english is NOT the hardest language. ^^ the amount of words is no problem, because many of them are similar to german ones, similar to french ones, or of latin origin. i speak german and i am latin nerd. german is actually one of the hardest languages, alongside the languages spoken in the area between germany and russia. they are all hard.

spanish is a very easy language, comparable to english, with less vocabulary, with better and more one-way obvious rules.
italian is very easy as well, you have very few words and u make many word combinations, though there you have again the cases of the nouns (which u dont have in english or spanish... but in german) which are related to how the noun is used: if it is used as the subject of the sentence, the one who is acting it is the first case. Phoenix sleeps. then phoenix is in the first case.
the 4th case is next important, which is the aim of an action. Phoenix beats the enemy. then phoenix is still 1. case and the enemy is in 4. case. when The enemy beats Phoenix its vice versa.
the 3. case is the aim of an indirect action. you can give something. then you are in the first case. something is in the 4. case as the aim of the action of giving. and as soon as you give something to someone, than "someone" is the indirect aim of your action and is in the third case.
the second case is the case of the origin. its the house of Phoenix. the house is first case, but phoenix is the origin and the second case.
spanish and english dont have this... makes it quite easy. (english and spanish have some rests of it: HE is always first case and HIM are for the other cases Smile )

so much to this linguistic excurse phoenix xD

just wanted you to know that i study latin and greek. THOSE are hard languages. ^^ and the hard stuff arent the words, its the confusion of the cases. and additionally the verbs are like crazy, especially in greek language. Finally i would say german comes right after latin and greek in the list of the hardest languages of the big languages. even germans cant speak it right.

@ gavin
i LOOOOOOVE chocolate. i will check the postbox every day now!!!
^^
well i hope it helps somehow for the comprehension that i made the correlating syntax parts in the same color Smile

and i am glad u wont be smacked by ur brother xD

The reason my language is poor is because we an ignorant nation, unforuntanely we a country of mostly good people, in a country ran by total arseholes. It makes me really angry. In other countries people are learing 2-3 different languages from early school age, in england i didnt start learning french until year 7 (age 12) years old, school and german until year 8 ( age 13). And then it was only 1-2 hours a week which is no time at all!

Great britain is by far the most language retarded country on earth, because our government is more intrested in educating people in maths, and science and literature. Despite the fact that these are fundamental, they arnt THAT fundamental! Students may be leaving school with good grades in core subjects, but they are not world wise at all! They have no clue about languages or world geography. All of the geography i learned was about england, and the subject is based more on what happens in rivers and other natural structures than the actual location of them. Thus we in the UK know little about the outside world compared to others.

Its like your government thinks everybody else in the world should learn english, and its got us a reputation for being lazy and ignorant (one of the reasons why other countries dislike us so), and this isnt the case, most of us would be really willing to have learned another language in more detail, but we wernt given the oppertunity. It makes me really angry.

Its the same with P.E (physical education), its not seen as a fundamantal subject and at school it was always a subject that people looked forward to, to do P.E was see as a privilage. And we all know how much our schools and our government likes to limit privilages, which is why we only did it once a week. Now it come to light that Being fit and healthy and exercising is the most important part of life, and now the reason why everybody is getting fat and lazy is because at school, they were never encouraged to exercise. School dinners were not dedicated to healty eating but more convinient food. Also there were no subjects in school dedicated to healthy eating. And in the same way, i kind of blame the government for smoking too, because at school although people were forced to not smoke, they were not encouraged to lead fir and health lives. The government has it all wrong, and if we contrast this to places like Japan for example, in japan schools, organisations and companies have schuelded breaks in which the WHOLE workforce actually partake in an organised physical workout session, and this happens everyday. People do exercises at work before they start on a morning , then again on breaks. They combine stretches, exercises and cardiovasular training in order to keep fit, and get the heart rate up. What a great life style in comparision, if i did streches and running outside the building before i started work, people would either think i was mental, or that i acting like an arsehole on perpose for attention.
I know this has nothing to do with languages but the reason i say it is because it is another thing that government has never cared about. Man i think our government seriously sucks Mad

Also i went to catholic school, which put religious eduction for in front of languages or exercise, thus this time was compromised so me could learn all about jesus and god. GRRRRRR! Mad

Thankfull things in the UK are changing, this exercise is being brought into greater priority as its importance is more recognised, and also languages now are being given a greater realisation by the government. Hopefully one day the UK wont be the ingnorant and lazy nation it is labled as now, but unfortunatly that up to the next generation, it is too late for me now. Sad

its ancient greek ^^
just to know: ancient greek is the official greek. someone who says greek in the circles of science, he always means ancient greek. the real name for the greek actually spoken is something like new greek. Razz

and it has a big usefulness.
1. i learned to understand my own language. i knew how to talk... but learnign latin made me understand the structure of sentences, of how the things work when i put my sentence together, how the different things are related to each other.
2. it made me learn spanish very easy. i didnt have to learn anything, because i only had to know how the things had to be pronounced, and what i DONT need to know in comparison to latin. that was kind of easy. too easy, thats why i didnt was very careful learning vocabularies, and condicional frases. which i lack on.
3. it makes me understand french, italian, portuguese and rumanian to over 80 percent. you can give me a text or a dialogue, and i tell you whats it about.
fact is, that when you learn french, it wont help you much for everyone of the other roman languages. for some, but not for all, furthermore youre pronouncing is spoiled. lacks latin doesnt have.
4. latin is so hard, other languages are easy in comparison, makes it easy to keep the will to learn them. (except greek. its harder)
5. it is necessary for the study of history, especially my favourite part: ancient times. (and btw philosophy) you cannot study history properly without knowing latin, as it was the main language for everything until the end of the middle ages (in europe of course).
6. it is fun. for me it was always like a game, i never asked for which i would be able to use it. i was free to be challenged by the difficulcies of translating. putting the words together correlating to its case, gender and number, and so on. it was kind of a puzzle, which makes a picture at the end. i liked to puzzle, and i like the picture in the end. i got from latin to history if you so want. it was very interesting for me all these stories about rome, the wars with cartagho, wars in gallia and germania, stories about the emperors and the civil wars. until the huns came... it was a small step being interested in how the storie goes on, german ppl wandering in europe. franks founding another big empire, which divides, the west is going to be france, the east germany. the west will get a crowned emperor again in the year 800 and 150 years later the east. the history from rome has a string to our actual times. in both directions.
all this is connected to latin in some way.
and now imagine tha latin is just a cover of greek. Very Happy the story begins even earlier. city states, philosophy, wars against persia, the foundation of the europe we know.
Razz

i was quite ok with my school. but i can see, that i could be an exception. the school was only there to wake some hobbies and interests. i followed them, and they made me finish my school good and go my way onto university, knowing what i will gonna be.
the only problem is, that i know that many ppl, especially young ppl, are hard to be interested in something that they can easily use to make a living, or that they can follow surely to get through life.
school feels for most to be divided from private life. you have ur interests on the one hand, and the school on the other, and the most ppl dont see that these are two sides of the same medal. so i actually think how the school is being runned, as a system, is good. there is only nothing done to make the pupils understand how it should work. maybe because even teachers dont know it. most teachers arent interested, many teachers are fallen scientists.
in fact i am convinced school is there to offer you the chance to get out what your abilities are, where ur strenghs are, and the offer u to keep ur strengths coming and train them, and helping u learn the things you need anyway, even if its none of your strengths. it helps you finding for yourself what you maybe want to do in the rest of your life.
so it is no duty you have to absolve before ur life starts, its an opportunity to take a train on the trip you would like to do through your life. you can choose. before the most pupils realize this, the train is gone.

and i can see that HOW the system of school is ran isnt perfect. when i say it offers you the chance to train ur strengthes, and helps you learning the things you need to learn, they DO have to offer it. so if you want to learn how to keep a healthy living, there should be such an offer. if you want to learn a language, there should be that offer.
but they have to be finalyl understood as offers. schools have to loose the image of a painful duty, but to gain the image of an helpful offer. but for this ppl should learn as well, that help is not the opportunity to lay back and let other do the stuff for you (which is a reason why the thing ive done here was bad, but thats why i made the colors and the explanations: he shall think at least a little about what he will be calling his homework) help is different. help means a guidance and support, but you still have to go on your own. it is exhausting sometimes, but school should be handing u water to refresh, handing you some shouts to give u some indication, give u some concurrence for competition. that is what help is.
but i see many schools ran wrong then.

its governments duty to arrange the funcionability of schools.
but i am afraid they dont even understand it. and how it should work.

they see in school, like most do (it is not a failure only the politicians make), a bucnh of food that has to be pushed into someones mouth, may he get it down or not, may it be tasteful or not. but its wrong. it should be a buffet, where you learn HOW to eat propperly first, where you take something to get a taste of everything, and where you can choose what tastes you best and eat as much as u want from it.
unfortunately finally the money and the economy comes into all this thoughts. you wont get any buffet with all you should need, and no servants guiding you along the table, tellign u what this should mean. its too impensive: bad servants, cheap food and capitalism: all you can eat... come what may.

fact is, that the government is made and forced to do this: they are only the instrument of the ideology their state is based on. even if they are made by ppls vote, they cant run a state, when they arent fulfilling the needs of the capitalism... or for some countries some years ago the socialism. the socialism at least wasnt destroying itself. it was the competition and crave for strength and reputation and so on, which all is contradicting to the socialism itself... these contradictions made socialism die. i am actually interested in seeing how a well ran socialism would work.
all we see is that capitalism is killing itself. it is so greedy, that it is eating the fundaments it is built on. the middle stand, that makes the state stable, is exploited, which lead to the power of the communists in russia, or th eopposite, power of the nazis in germany. capitalism destroys itself. and therere are many effects heloing this progress: neglecting the education is another big one of those reasons.
just imagine: how many stuff are we using, without knowing how it works? we couldnt repair a car, when its broken. this happens in science as well. some few are pushing the progress, while the majority is left far behind, and they loose the possibility to follow it, because the education gets worse and worse.

for this the government isnt to blame alone. it is the ideology behind it.
and that one is burned in our minds. so if you are unsatisfied with something, you can follow the lack back to the ppls mind always. the only thing you can do is make up your mind. on your own, and with help of others. which means that u have to also help others.
i am convinced the best way to use the power of your voice is the talk with the ppl around you. not the game of the policies or the media... but the contact to your surroundings.

thats why i actually love the eric clapton song so much, which was once theme song of the day... it says in the bridge to the refrain: "plant your love and let it grow"
just plant your thoughts somewhere, your good ideas, and let them grow. though u may not see the most beatiful flower in the forest when u are looking from the sky, you can still be sure, that when the trees finally fall down, because they are loosing theyre roots, they losse the space to your thougth, the trees are even destroying their own roots, because of the things i explained. if capitalism was a tree, it would be eating its roots to grow higher.
thats why i liked phoenix post so much. he just shared his concernes with us, liek that. no capitalistic intention, no egoistic demands...
just a thoughtful moment...

he planted his love and let it grow Smile
