Hard drive is done

Well, my hard drive has decided to stop working. I tried to take my old PC's laptop but it's not compatible.

So this means I likely won't be active until i've bought a new hard drive or i find a way to fix mine.

Any advice on fixing methods are appriciated.

EDIT: If you hear strange noises of the hard drive and hear some rhythm pattern, your sectors are broken. Time to change for a new hard drive.

Symptoms for this issue is, when your PC starts hanging somewhere and later it tells you I/O Error. And your HDD-Led on your pc is blinking when it s stuck in reading a defected sector.

Yeah I hear clicking noises. I guess i gotta buy a new one.

I sometimes hear ticking noises coming from the PC, when it starts the computer freezes for about 10 minutes until the ticking stops.

The ticking/clicking noises from your HDD can be caused also by the magnetic reader or what it is when it is touching the HDD. The reader is positioned only like few micrometers or even nanometers above the HDD and when your comp suffers a shake the reader can dump down and scratch the HDD. Then when the reader goes thru the disc again he runs into the scratch and makes the clicking noise.
Maybe this is your problem, I don't know. This post is just my two cents into the discussion

I am running CHKDSK in CMD to see if it can fix anything. :S

I once hit my fists on the laptop and the laptop was jumping and it has made a cracking noise. It has experienced a headcrash. There it cannot read the sectors on the HDD when the surface is physically damaged.

But on shotty's case i am sure that it is not a headcrash but it has been damaged logically. Can be caused by a standby - mode for unknown reason.
Or because of longer usage.

My PC freezes sometimes so i'm forced to use the button to turn it off. I'll probably buy a new drive. It just sucks to loose all my data.

Unfortunately, you have to buy a new one. For my god damn laptop, which you can see on my mouse video, i had to change the HDD 4 times in a row. And that was the same HDD problem since it experienced the Standby-mode. + rage.

You might be able to slave the old hard drive to your PC when you put a new hard drive in so you might not lose data. Just depends on how screwed it is.

You still will be getting new stuff it appears so try to recover as much data as you can and if you can (hopefully you can)

I can't do anything on it. CHKDSK didn't help.

Try backup your files and if it hangs up, turn it oft and leave it. Buy a New HDD.

I can't back anything up. Windows won't start. Fml.

Small update: I will be using my laptop until I've bought a new HDD for my stationary PC. So I will try to be as active as I can, since my laptop is pretty much shit.

Do you have an external hdd? With that i opened up its case and put my broken hdd in the case just to save my files.

Yes I have an external HDD, but it's USB. I'm pretty positive that a stationary PC needs an internal HDD.

You could still slave it to your laptop with a SATA > USB cable or IDE > USB cable and see if you can salvage any data.

Yes, take out the hdd out of the stationary pc. You have hdd1
Then take out the external hdd of its case. You have hdd2
And then put the hdd1 into the external hdd case and connect to your laptoo via usb.

Dont boot up with the usb, after your windows is started, connect the external hdd with the hdd1. Save your files on the laptop s hdd, if possible.

Note that you have SATA on the hdds and the external hdd case.
