| i cant be bothered to repeat myself: binary has more IP's than i have keys on my keyboard. you will never get rid of him. and i cant be bothered to repeat this again as well: it would be alot easier to get along with him, that fight him until someone cries. | |

| Doesn't matter how many IPs Binary has, if he lags he's banned. Just because someone is good at escaping prison doesn't mean we stop sending them to prison. But I am excited at the possibility of Binary making peace with us, I miss you when you're a cool guy, Binary. | |

| lol dynamic i.p is a server policemans nightmare! Nick i remember a while ago you said my i.p kept changing, yet i wasnt even aware that i had dynamic ip. As far as i was aware mine will only be static, so how come it changes? And with dynamic ip, what extent can it be changed to? Apparently binary has loads of i.ps, but i some of the digits are always static arent they? Some digits cant be changed. Another thing is if you change your ip all the time, what stops it conflicting with somebody elses? And how many combinations are possible? | |

| I.p trick? You do have dynamic ip though yes?
So is it possible that when u change your i.p, i can conflict with somebody elses? What happens then if so? Also, can u change your i.p to anything you want, or is it just automatic?

It's possible to have an IP conflict, but highly unlikely. You cannot choose your public IP address unless you are the admin of a hosting company. It is automatically given to you. When you leave the network you are connected to, someone else may take your IP address, and so when you reconnect the DHCP server will give you a new one out of the pool of IP addresses it is allowed to assign. There cannot be two duplicate IP addresses on the internet or conflicts could arise. It's possible, but if it happens it's a mistake, and the two clients could receive data that was supposed to go to the other person, and vice versa. But these days it's very rare due to the speed and reliability of routers. You absolutely cannot choose whatever IP address you want, because you are connected to a network, and to communicate on that network you must have an IP address that is part of that network. This is why typically when someone changes their IP, the first two octets stay the same, because the network they are on may be the xxx.xxx.0.0 network, and so any IP address that communicates on that network must start with xxx.xxx. Most of the time when people are able to change the first two octets, it's simply because they are on a subnetted network and unfortunately with JK2 you can only use classful address banning. Although if it became a huge problem, I could probably get the server hosts to let me blacklist networks using classless addressing through a utility on the server configuration. That being said however, most people have a dynamic IP address, it's just a matter of their network habits that determines how often it changes. For instance, Phoenix you have posted under 266 different IP addresses on this forum xD. In contrast, I've had only 17. This basically means that my modem is connected to my ISP for much longer continuous portions of time than yours is. - Phoenix wrote:

For IPv4: 232 = 4294967296 Although in reality there are fewer due to IP address conventions. I'm not familiar with IPv6 yet so I wouldn't be able to calculate the number of possibilities myself, but it's exponentially larger than the pool for IPv4. In America, IPv4 is almost exclusively used, and it is still the dominate network layer protocol worldwide.

| All addresses themselves are still given out by the DHCP server of your ISP, though; you don't have direct control over the IP address result from your request. | |
