| This message is to everyone, I'm a bit drunk so here we go.
JK2 is a game in all of our lives, past or present and it will carry on that way for a good long time. When the masterlist went down before Christmas it almost killed the game completely. Loads of people stopped playing because the only servers people could join were the Clan servers. Then when the masterlist came back on, activity started to trickle back, but it was nowhere near what it was before. Our biggest period of new player activity was when JK2 was on sale and some random guy with 10k+ viewers was streaming it, that brought a lot of new players in at the time, however hardly any of them stuck around.
New players have been cropping up every now and again in the last couple of months, but not enough in my opinion and they aren't really committing to anything because it's only the hardcore group left. How can we as a hardcore group left, keep actual new or returning players to stay?
I'm posting this in public chat because I think the last of us who are committed to the game, if we want this game to carry on how it was when we loved it the most, have a duty to encourage new\returning players into this game. That means helping them, training them, being friendly and offering advice.
No matter what clan we are in or our differences between each other, helping new players should be a priority for us otherwise we will fizzle out into just a very small group of hardcore players and the occasional new player who would leave quickly.
This is just drunken rambling, but I think if we want this game to carry on surviving we need to look after the new players and there have been more than a few recently that we haven't given the attention they might have needed.
Let's suck up our differences with each other and try make this game like it was.

| I agree with you mate. I think everyone, myself included, can do a better job of reaching out to the new players to keep them around | |

| What about looking into JKA too? This game has bigger pool of players and maybe there are lot of them there who never tried this similar yet different game. Dunno what else could be good pool to fish in but maybe it needs also jk2mv. You all know that version combines multiple server lists and always shows servers if Raven crashes so people know they have a way how/where to connect. | |

| I think there are a lot of ways to be helpful or friendly with new players, but I'll share one of my favorite ways that I don't see a lot of from other veteran players. I like to move very slowly when new players fight me (or if I move quickly, it is defensively or for show, rather than for offense), minimize Force use, no advanced techniques like PK, ST, GK, no kicks. I try to move and fight like a Jedi character might in the movies, so that they can understand what's occurring in the combat. I focus on standing my ground and just using saber defense, with a bit of offense, and I try to match how active my technique is to their skill level. I like for those fights to last a long time so that they get an idea about what higher levels of skill can look like, but I also like to let them win occasionally as a result of those restrictions placed on myself (ie - I don't suddenly start employing PK just before I die to kill them). Most gamers only play games that are fun, that they're good at, or that they think they'll be good at. In a game like JK2 that usually has no other built-in objective than to kill other players, if you are unsuccessful in fighting, you probably aren't having much fun as a new player until you learn all the other things you can do in the game. For that reason, I think it's important for new players to experience success in the early hours of playing the game. If they feel they stand a chance at becoming a good player, they're more likely to stick around long enough to learn the other fun aspects of the game. There is also the issue that new players often find it difficult to tell whether or not they're improving, because against veteran players, even if they are improving they will probably still be getting massacred in fights. As a veteran player, if you consistently impose certain restrictions on yourself that even the odds, both you and the new player can tell when the new player is improving, although this requires maintaining your restrictions even as you approach death. Not everyone's ego can handle that! Once you see consistent improvement, you can remove some restrictions on yourself and increase the difficulty for the new player. But I think it's always important to show them a mix of success and failure, not just one or the other. | |

| I use to do exactly what you're saying, Nick, provided that the new player is not a whiny puppy. | |

| That's a good idea. I think we should also make an effort to help these new players get used to the game. I know we do that to an extent but once people have given them the basics we kind of leave them to their own devices. Maybe giving them some NF, FF, FFA tips (depending on their preference) might help too.
Given that it's a social game also, our server especially is mostly talking, so inviting new players into the conversation would be good too. It can be the little things sometimes which brings people back.

| You can't always count on Gametracker The DARK 1.02 server isn't on there, and that server is quite popular too As an example | |

| Not to necro, but... Azzy!? Wow dude, been awhile. JK3 (while I admittedly haven't been on lately) seems to be taking the same direction JK2 did during it's slowing down phase much quicker IMO. JK2 feels like a more polished game. | |

| Well,
My time is SoL JK2, JKA MBII, Star Wars Galaxies, and some Steam.
I try to get on when others are on, occasionally I will go by myself though to a server.

| Why dont we expand to JK3? Its the same Answer as always: NO... How can we simply improve our selves, wouldnt it be nice to have our Clan expanded, just imagine... even people in your town then know SoL Now thats a thing that would be cool, but no one is preapared to expand, we have been sitting on JK2 for 5 if not 6 years... We need to Improve, Expand! | |
