| Hello everyone,
I thought that since this concerns the entire JK2 community, that I would post this in chat where everyone can see it.
To my SoL brothers:
2018 has been a tough year for us. There are many who have left us. In the beginning, the HCs had emphasized communication between us, and that has clearly not been effective enough. We have failed to communicate with the rest of the clan. Some people have even gone as far to think as though there are "shadow leaders" pulling strings. We have resorted to turning on each other.
This is not the SoL way. It all starts with attitude. We're all angry, and that's understandable. It seems every month, someone else leaves. We point this frustration at others outside of SoL, but that is ultimately unfair to others. It can't continue if we hope to endure. The fact here is that SoL is the last place active enough where everyone can gather, and DOES gather. If something happens to us, it could very well possibly be the death of JK2, and I want to prevent that at all costs.
To the non-SoL members of the JK2 community:
The relationship between our clan and yourselves have been extremely strained, and communication has been next to nothing. The HCs (and hopefully the rest of SoL) recognize that we have to establish trust with everyone, not just within our own clan. To most of you, we have been crude and disrespectful, and that's not the way SoL is supposed to act. Apologies are definitely in order. As I see it now, it probably contributes to why some of you have left us. We're willing to meet in the middle and work together to make this a community worth being a part of, and we need your help in doing so (which I will explain in detail). The goals here are to take pressure off of our overworked admin team, cease hateful hostilities between us, and evolve our community to work WITH its playerbase, instead of against it.
Without further ado, here is a plan (drafted with assistance from a member of the community) to attempt to bring us together. Once again, I have made this chat public, so that both groups, SoL or not, can comment, because it concerns all of us:
Community Managers (CMs):
The concept of community managers is quite very simple. HCs will choose 5 random players who are regularly active on the SoL server, and those players will all be comprised of non-SoL members. The community managers will be the earpiece of SoL. If there is a problem the community has on the server or if the community wants to implement a specific change, then the community managers will be able to hear about it, and then communicate the problem to the HCs, who can then immediately take action.
Past discrepancies have taken place and HCs have not had the knowledge or information necessary to make corrections effectively, and the object of CMs is to keep SoL as a clan informed about how everyone's morale is on server.
Community managers have no additional admin commands, but they will be tasked with oversight on the server and their opinions will be directly relayed to HCs. CMs will act as advisors to HCs, much like a board of directors advise a CEO to make decisions. Elections for HCs and other admin will continue just as they always have.
Role of Admin:
HCs will, as tradition states, provide server admin and general leadership responsibilities. They must be well spoken and willing to make thoughtful decisions with everyone's best interests at heart.
DCs, should have the ability to change maps, basic admin commands, promote good clan relations, and responsibilities in making sure new members are receiving proper training. DCs should be skilled at fighting and should have a great grasp of the magnitude of their responsibilities as an admin.
Discussion:
Obviously, CMs would be the main thing we would like to get done with this discussion. I'd also like to establish talks regarding rules with competitive etiquette (mwheel, etc.). If you don't feel like commenting here, please feel free to comment on this in our discord chat, or PM one of our HCs on what you think SoL could further be doing better!
Edit:
Not long after the creation of this post, a serious discussion took place in Discord where 3 main terms were established:
1: CMs will indeed be chosen by HCs, but suggested by the community.
2: There will be a total of 5 CMs. 2 CMs will be armed with DC admin (DC admin will be edited to only be able to make map changes, and use private chat. No longer will DCs have the ability to ban or kick.) HCs will remain at full admin and continually voted on by the clan as a whole, just as it has always been.
3: In a show of ceremonial good faith, we will be doing a clean slate, meaning the SoL admin would unban any ips previously banned so that we may start fresh, together. Everyone is aware that future actions will be judged, but we are leaving the past behind us.

Should edit or remove this too imo. As Daggo pointed out, it kinda make you guys sound quite arrogant, which I doubt you or anyone else want to associate SoL with

What point is there in neutral community admins, if the only thing they will be able to do is to change maps? The only outcome I see for limiting them this much is for your HC to get an even heavier "work load", which both you and Yodah have expressed is already too heavy, and that was when DC admins was still a thing. At least give them some tools, otherwise prepare yourself to be called upon even more often than you do now, because if DC admins aren't really in effect right now (as their permissions get limited to just maps and chat as well), and you don't provide at least a handful of tools for community admins to actually be able to administrate things, you, the three HC admins, are going to get a lot more busy than you already are Just a thought

| I don't think his intention was to sound arrogant. Anyway, I don't really know if it is a good idea or not, but I admire you for taking the time to think ways of dealing with the current situation. If people want, we can give it a try. I do think is positive the intention to be more close to the community in some way. Even if this doesn't work out or we don't execute the proposal, this topic can be useful to think of other alternatives to the problem or inspire someone of the JK2 community to make some proposals. - Kameleon wrote:

Although you might have a good point regarding your argument against this, I think he proposed it like that so that CMs with DC admin won't abuse with substancial and delicate commands like being able to kick or ban a player.

Not saying they should be able to ban anyone, but they could at least get something like sleep, just in case SoL admins are not on the server, or don't have time to get online. Otherwise their only way preventing someone from being hunted, if talking fails, would be to change maps until they stop?

| I see your point with this Kam! Have been busy returning home for the summer for the last couple days We'll need to have a good discussion soon about what kind of commands (within reason) a CM should have. Odds are, HCs will be the only ones in the future with kick/ban capabilities. | |
