Um dude, learning classical music is not a bad thing. I once took classes for violin, and a part of me really is sad that I quit taking classes. Yeah, we all know playing the electric guitar would be awesome, but sometimes playing the original stuff is the best to get a good appreciation for all types of music (Besides rap).
So, ignore Phoenix and keep learning to play piano. Impresses the ladies just as much. ^^

Hey hey hey! Im a fan of classical music too, you know how mad i go over Final Fantasy 7 & 8, thats all classical, composed and orchastrated and all of the music in them games are pure 100% epic. I love it. <3. The person who composed the music for them games is a highly regarded and celebrated japanese composer called Nobuo Uematsu.
To this day ive never heard in anything, not even in rock and roll, music that has such emotion and feeling, it has the abillity to make somebody feel both tranquil and exhilirated at the same time. It was one of the reasons i fell in love with final fantsay.
For the record, hall of the mountain king ftw!
I like piano, violin and other classical instruments, i used to play the trumpet when i was a kid. I really like some Irish music too, probably because i have some Irish in my blood. You cant knock classical.
The painstaking thing is all shit you have to go through in order to get to a stage where you can play something you like. Its the crawl before you can walk princilple. It really puts people off, it certainly put me off. What im saying is that its so hard to look at the bigger picture and focus on what you could amount to, when your stuck playing Mary has a little lamb.
Most people would love to play an instument, I would like to play guitar and violin and other stuff too, but its all the shit you have start off playing that puts many people off. Thats all im saying....

i think playing an instrument would be far better use of all your time then playing video games.
@ Phoenix, "In the hall of the mountain king" is a piece by Edvard Grieg. It's an orchestral piece but there are arrangements for piano that I've played. If anyone has any classical questions I can probably answer them. At least where piano repertoire is concerned. I know a lot of orchestral stuff too. If you get into other instruments, like cello for example, forget it. Grieg was a norwegian composer. His piano concerto in A minor is also a well known work.

Quite so, if only i had the patience to persevere through all the shat you have to play just to get to something decent. I actually have 2 guitars and a piano, but the piano is out of tune (and has been for 20 years ) and one of my acoustic guitars has a string snapped. The other is a spanish classical. But i have nobody to teach me and lessons are expensive.
Heres a classical question wehr, what do you think of Nobuo Uematsu?

This was discussed in the "let me see your face topic". We went off on a tangent for a bit and this conversation was irrelevant in that topic. However i found it quite intresting, so ive split it and moved it so we can continue talking about it if anybody wants to.
Ive found a couple of pieces that ive dedided rival "Hall Of The Mountain King". One is "Ride Of The Valkyries" by Wagner, which im sure everbody will recall.
The other is more obscure. Its the orchestra which is featured at the end of the Greg Lake Christmas hit "I Believe in Father Christmas" which amazingly enough i managed to find out was not designed for that song, but was actually taken by greg from a Russian (i think) composer. Im not sure how known that song is worldwide, but its a well known xmas song so im assuming most people have heard it.
Recognise?

Mmm, i should really recognise that Nutcracker one, (for reasons best known to myself ), but i dont. Saying that its been years since ive heard it. Pas-de-deux ey....
Kernow isnt that off an advert? Maybe a one thats narrited by John Hannah? A banking advert pahaps? I sounds ok, quite melodic but there not enough happening in that for me, it needs to be more....epic xD
This is pretty damn cool
Kernow do you recognise that Greg Lake song?
